Biography
Nathaniel McKeever is defined by his musical fluency and individualistic sound on the trumpet. He is one of the New York Capital Region’s top call trumpeters and performs in a variety of commercial settings. He is a member of Millington, a Ska/Punk/EMO band which cultivates a captivating sound through their original compositions. In addition, he is a freelance trumpeter playing with groups such as Garland Nelson’s Soul Session, New York Players Nouveau, and Silver Arrow. Nathaniel is an active jazz musician playing with the BWC Jazz Orchestra and leading his own ensembles.
Growing up in New York City, Nathaniel was introduced to the trumpet at an early age and attended the renowned performing arts high school - Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and Manhattan School of Music’s Precollege Program. In high school, he had to opportunity to perform at a variety of musical venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
In 2015, Nathaniel was admitted to the prestigious Double Degree program at Peabody Conservatory where we had the opportunity to simultaneously pursue a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Science at Johns Hopkins University. During his collegiate experience, he cultivated his distinctive sound and style through studying privately with world-class trumpeters Alex Norris and Sean Jones. Nathaniel has studied with some of the top musicians of the 21st century: Warren Wolf, Nasar Abadey, Alex Brown, Quincy Phillips, Michael Formanek, and Gary Thomas. Nathaniel performs music from a variety of genres ranging from jazz & fusion to classical. In addition to his trumpet performance work, Nathaniel is an active composer & arranger, showcasing his musical voice in each of his compositions and arrangements. Nathaniel is an inspirational musical educator and currently teaches privately.
Nathaniel’s expertise extends beyond music. After graduating from Johns Hopkins with a Master’s in Materials Science & Engineering in 2020, he joined GE Research’s Edison Engineering Program where he is currently leveraging computer vision based image analysis techniques to accelerate next generation materials development. In his spare time, Nathaniel can be found hiking/camping in the Adirondacks, making amazing bread or traveling.
Millington
Nathaniel joined as the trumpet voice for the band Millington in March, 2022. Millington is an Emo/Ska-punk band hailing from Albany, New York.
Their sound can be described as “When the high-energy infectious hooks of bands like Blink-182 and New Found Glory get a horn-fueled makeover”
Top songs include Beatdown Generation, Cold in the City & Let You In.
After playing at Gov Ball in New York City, Millington is currently working towards their next studio album as well as playing shows in the Northeast, USA.

Each lesson is designed to develop a student’s appreciation and awareness of all musical genres. Understanding the joy, humor and emotion in musical works, provides students with the perspective needed to enjoy the process of learning the trumpet.
The trumpet was developed in Europe and was brought into the American idiom in the early 20th century. Therefore, my approach to training is to combine the European tradition of trumpet études and solo repertoire with the American vernacular of jazz so that students will gain the technical facility for various styles of trumpet playing.
